Delayed Soreness

Have you ever worked out and right afterwards you thought to yourself, "Oh Man I'm Going to be Sore tomorrow" and then the next day comes and you feel fit as a fiddle and the next day your feeling completely wrecked. Yep that is how I have been feeling today. I did a ton of squats the other night and my legs are SUPER SORE.

They feel my pain...
Tonight I have a ton of things to do, bake a cake for Mikey, do some bridal Shower stuff, do some chores, cook dinner, and I want to go over my duet before practice tomorrow. So I probably won't do much working out tonight. I am thinking of throwing on some tunes and getting busy and maybe I'll throw in some shoulder holds and maybe a few burpees. Mike bought ice cream last night so maybe I can challenge him to a 5 burpee shoot out, see who can do 5 burpees faster. He has been indulging his sweet tooth alot lately.

Last Nights Dinner:

Palomg Mexican Burgers
I wanted to make something I haven't had in a while and I wanted to use what I had, I only need some fresh avocado's from the store. Mike doesn't remember me making these before and I couldn't find it on the blog so I made sure to post it...

The sauce is yummy and has the kind of taste like a cheese sauce and I love it. I think come the summer time I might have to make this for the week in big batches and save it for the week. its a great sauce and I love the fact that its so simple and easy to make.

-PaleOMG's "Cheese Sauce"
-Jar of Roasted Red Peppers
-2 Ripe avocados
-1/2 lemon
-Garlic Powder
-Onion Powder
-Salt and Pepper

Just combine all in a food processor and combine until its smooth and creamy and then "put that Sh*t on everything"

I also cooked my mexican burgers in bacon fat and then have bacon on top of my cheese sauce. Alongside some yummy broccoli with Kerrygold butter mixed in.

Perfect Dinner simple and easy and Mike did the dishes while I added more and more Irish flare to the house :)

You can never have TOO MANY Shamrocks :)

AMRAP

If you take crossfit classes you know what an AMRAP is, if you don't its am acronym for As Many Rounds (or Reps) Possible.

Last night I did:

15 Air Squats
30 sec Push Up Hold
15 Bicycle Crunches

This seemed like a tame WOD but it certainly wasn't its short intervals constantly moving. I made it through 5 whole rounds and 10 squats. It was a tough one and my legs and abs were screaming ....

For Dinner we had wings and fries nice and easy and Paleoish... Works for me!

Agree to Disagree

One thing that bothers me is when people force their beliefs on you or act like the way they do a certain thing is better than you do something.

Since going Paleo I take any opportunity to help enlighten and educate those around me but I never act like the way I eat is superior to others.

I mostly try to explain how processed foods in our diet is slowly killing us a d is just not a healthy way of eating but again when I meet someone who doesn't agree I leave it at that.

My biggest pet peeve of all is when people challenge my opinion. Don't tell me my opinion is wrong or that I can't think the way I do? I can have any opinion I like and in MY opinion Paleo is a healthier diet than a vegan diet. I can also say that Paleo is a better diet for me personally.

My biggest rule of thumb is that when discussing topics like diet it's not cut and dry. I eat Paleo and while I do I still allow myself some cheats and I am ok. Others may not be able to have a bit of dairy or a bit of grains and be ok... I on the other hand can.

I don't particularly like a vegan or vegetarian diet because it leads many to eat processed foods and grains which I don't agree with. Also some vegetarians and vegans claim they hate the taste of meats and that is mostly because it was probably not properly cooked.

To each there own. However you live and whatever you decide to eat just do the best you can and know that there are some that will disagree... Just try not to force it down people's throat!

Ok end rant...

Trader Joe's

So I introduced Mike to Trader Joe's this weekend and we learned a few very important things...

1. Buying certain items from them are cheaper and so much better value.

Our love for KerryGold butter means we can eat it by the pounds and only pay 2.99 for a lb. Rather than buying a tub of KerryGold for 4.99 at WF. (whole foods)

Bacon is so much cheaper at Trader Joe's than Whole Foods.

Wine and Beer selection is great and you get a great of equal value and ALL THE SELECTION.

2. It's Small

I tend to spend more and more time in stores that offer more variety. I run from aisle to aisle looking and comparing and it drives Mike crazy so when we go to Trader Joe's we are in and out.

3. Friendly Staff and lots of them.

I almost felt out numbered at TJ's until we went to the checkout but then as soon as a line built up they had more and more checkers and we were paying in no time. The staff is super friendly and they seem really eager help.

Stumbled upon this gem. Ace in he awkward stage. I love him so much awkward or not
Tonight's WOD:
15 Minute AMRAP
Complete as many rounds of the following as possible in 15 minutes.
After work I need to stop at a few stores, then I'm gonna throw some wings in the oven and then do my WOD for the night. A healthy mix of Legs, Arms, and Abs. I might even add in some other fun things as warm ups like 5 burpees for time or something fun.

Multitasking at it's finest!

Open Gym

Such a beautiful Sight... My twirling Studio...

Today is one of those days when I get in early Zone in and get my work done and sneak out to go to open gym. My studio is the exact opposite direction of my house but its MAJOR STRESS RELIEVER. I get to just twirl and laugh and have fun with my teammates and coach and its the best part of my week.

Tonight I don't have a lesson or any team practices so I will meet up with my duet partner and go through our duet until we remember it. I am also going to work on a ton of new tricks and try and up my game.

Like Monster Rolls
I love open gym because I can escape work early, and twirl while everyone else sits in rush hour traffic and then I get to go home when traffic is all done.

Last Nights WOD:
1.5 Mile walk with Mike and Ace
With a Hill Sprint at the End.

( I tweaked my knee this weekend at twirling so an easy walk after work and a small run was just what I wanted.)

Tonight I am going to Twirl till I Drop :)

What is your favorite part of the week?

Practice What You Preach

So I have been awesome with my eating, I haven't felt sick after eating until last night. I went over to a family members house and I don't know what it was ( maybe the piece of bread or the brownie) but I had terrible stomach cramps on the way home. So after that I have decided never again. I am taking it serious and ending my relationship with grains for real...

This song came on the radio and brought me back to my highschool days. I was so cool and I rocked out to this tune hardcore on Saturday.

I had an awesome day at twirling and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my routines. It is so much fun. I am heading to open gym tomorrow night to practice my duet and I bet I will do some of the other routines as well. I am excited for the busy competition season ahead I hope no more snow is in our future!

Also Mike's Birthday is coming up...What to Do, Where to Go, What to buy?

It's all about choices

I am serious about staying true to my diet because I have felt great all week. So I this morning I really wanted to try the Irish cream coffee from Dunkin, so I talked Mike into going and getting me one. He got a breakfast sandwich from there and I only wanted a coffee. While he ran out I made homemade sweet potato home fries and scrambled three eggs in Kerry Gold Irish butter. It was super yummy!

On the list today is twirling practice this morning and then maybe out and about tonight! I always love to sort of have plans!!!!

Happy Saturday!

Ash

Snow Storm Saturn

So all week we have been hearing that we were getting snow but the levels of snow ranged from 0 to 24 inches... Good Job weather people... You really gave us a good idea of what to expect.

Anywho, My job has a website that lets us know if the office will be open or not. So I woke up and looked at my phone and no such luck this girl had work... So I hopped in the shower and did my makeup and hair and had my coffee. As I was on my way to the bedroom to get changed I got the bright idea to see what it looked like out side, so I could decide whether I wanted to clean off my car before or after I was dressed and ready and that's when I saw this...

Where's The Road???
Luckily I am able to make a judgement when it comes to the weather and so I decided that while the 'burbs might be a bit more snowy than Boston I decided staying home might be a better option. After all, the day before I slipped on barely any snow, and I couldn't even see the road.

So I set up shop and got to work. Had I left for work at 7:30 like I normally do I would have arrived at 10am, no joke maybe 10:30 and most people who did make the trek in left by 10am. So I made the right choice and I had some awesome company and co-workers for the day.
"Aren't you done with that CMS spot yet? I could have done it faster"
"I hides from you... Don't Look at me..."
"Are you sure you want to Add that to Shop? Really? "
This was early in the day... over 17 inches... Holy  Guacamole...
WOD: Shoveling the Sidewalk and the Remnants of the driveway for Time... GO!
This took Mike and I just under an hour!
Go Team!

These snow storms are helping me get some nice and strong and toned muscles. Squats, abs braced, over head snow throwing... I earned some wine tonight!

Welp That's a wrap! Have fun kids I am off to enjoy the Night with Mike and Meg!

Ash

Kiss Me I'm Irish

So it's March and Mike already has his eye on a large corned beef at whole foods. He can't wait for St. Paddy's Day and the Corned Beef and Cabbage!

I was thinking about my style of cooking and I am proud that I love to try a ton of different kinds of foods. One thing most people know about me is that I love my culture and I love that I am Irish!

Since going Paleo I have changed my shopping habits too. I buy organic when I can and grass fed beef when I can. I thought this was silly, but hey you are what you eat and I want to be awesome so I want to eat awesome food.

I recently discovered KerryGold Butter
If you have never had it, you should try it! It is the BEST BUTTER EVER! It's grass fed butter which means the happy cows that graze on the lovely green feilds of Ireland eat just that... Grass and not Genetically Modified Soy Corn that the BIG FARM companies like to sell :)

Happy Cows make good Butter!

I also LOVE that Kerry Gold is from Ireland. I love that I can celebrate and cook good foods with awesome ingredients from Ireland. Like I said before I love my Irish heritage and I am proud of it not on just March 17th but everyday. My two favorite pieces of jewlery are from Mike my Tiffanys Shamrock Necklace... and My Claddagh Ring which he bought directly from IRELAND :)

Yay PBS and Say What You Want!

Sorry guys, Life has gotten so crazy. I had a rough week at work, and Mike had a crazy week. Plus I had gone a little crazy working out, and I hurt my back. So I was excited by the fact that the weekend was here... Until I woke up at 7:30am and found out that my Water Heater was leaking. GREAT.

I had a day of twirling fun ahead of me, and note to self. I NEED TO STRETCH everyday and OMG my twirling coach and team mates are awesome I love spending time there.

After being house bound all Sat and Most of Sun I was able to get out and have a little fun. But Blogging was on the back Burner. Oh and I went for a lovely fast walk with Ace face on Sunday!!!!!

Why PBS Rocks!

Do you hate being censored? Do you hate hearing news people blurt out dumb stats and phony stories? Do you hate Fad Diets? Do you hate that everything is Commercialized?

If you answered Yes to those questions, then GOOD. Me Too! I love the Balanced Bites Podcasts and the one that I heard today with JJ Virgin reminded me why. She has a great podcast with Diane and Liz and the information that she gives is AWESOME! So I hope that you check it out.

Have you ever watched a show and noticed how much the whole show is geared towards so many different advertisers? Can you imagine being on a show and having to re-tape certain parts to cover something you said that MIGHT upset an advertiser. Yep or how about the CRAZY WAY that J.J. Virgin kept herself and her life in check and saved her son's life just by simply taking care of herself and telling doctors they were wrong and they had to do something.

Everyone NEEDS TO HEAR THIS PODCAST.

I have had a lot of things going on in my life and the way people act can completely surprise me, yet when you look at your life in the grand scheme of things you can see that it could be a ton worse. Be Thankful everyday and don't sweat the small stuff.

Oh yea and PBS rocks, J.J. was able to pledge her book and speak the truth about the importance of nutrition and say what everyone needs to hear and what they want to say.

"What would you do for Kobe Bryant... If your mission is to make my son walk again then your fired"

How to prevent an Injury

So I have been working out like a beast the passed few weeks and I have unintentionally wrecked my back. Why did I do this? Unintentionally, I have fallen in love with TRX and while I am ambitious to get in a good sweat sesh I have found that I can sometimes ignore my form and lean on other muscle groups to help. I.E. my back... so if you know TRX or if you don't it's a lot of core strength and if you don't use your core you can wreck your back. Like I have done. So I have been kind of neglecting the TRX this week and doing a ton of Met Con training, or the similar Rounds for time in the crossfit world.

TRX is just so fun... and so is crossfit and since I can't afford Crossfit at the moment, TRX is my new love to hate.

By this I mean I love it but the next day I hate it, I love the burn and I love the results but I hate that it makes me waddle and feel crippled. Hey No Pain no Gain right?

Office Yoga

I am probably the only person to read the How to of the Day on my iGoogle. Today was a rousing version of Office Yoga and I find this interesting because I DO NOT stretch and move enough Mon-Fri. When I am home on the weekends I can barely sit still. I am constantly cleaning, or prepping, cooking, something and I think that is in part because I sit too much at work. I sit for almost 8 hours straight. That's CRAY CRAY... So I find that I need to adjust and stretch and fix my posture so I don't get stiff. I may not meditate and do all these crazy moves but I can say that I definitely do a lot of this.

 Last Nights WOD:
Last Night I planned on doing another timed WOD, but when I got home I wanted nothing to do with working out. So instead I spent some time with my pups and the BF, we have both been having rough days lately so it was good to just relax a little. We cooked a nice meal together and just hung out.

Don't you just love those nights sometimes?

Ash
